That's a Wrap! Books Across Stamford: Summer Series

From July 24th to August 4th, SPEF traveled to Stamford summer schools, recreation camps, Boys and Girls Clubs, and more to provide Stamford students with new, free books. With the goal of improving literacy and building home libraries, SPEF was able to provide each child with a wide selection of books, representing the richly diverse population of Stamford. During this two-week period,
4,500 books were given away
across Stamford.

Keep an eye out for more Books Across Stamford events this fall!

First County Bank Foundation Grants SPEF $3,500

SPEF's longtime partner, First County Bank Foundation, has graciously granted $3,500 to SPEF in support of our Stamford Mentoring Program! SPEF has been delivering its Stamford Mentoring Program to middle school students since 2010. It gives students weekly one-on-one and group mentoring sessions with trained volunteers who help students get prepared for post-secondary success.
Thank you, First County Bank Foundation!

Seeking Enthusiastic &  Caring Mentors!

Do you know a caring adult who would be an excellent mentor? Send them our way! SPEF's Stamford Mentoring Program is looking for new mentors to guide students through four primary objectives: setting goals, improving academic standings, becoming engaged in positive after-school activities, and preparing for post-secondary success.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Wendy at wcunney@spefct.org!

End Note: Barnyard Adventure with our Summer Start Program!

As we wrapped up this year’s Summer Start program, preparing 90 little learners to enter kindergarten in the fall, a couple of yellow school buses pulled up to Hart Magnet Elementary School on Wednesday, August 2nd for the annual field trip to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. It was a morning to remember, as our students met pigs and cows, laughed at silly otters, reached in to pet an alpaca, and zoomed down the tall slide on the playground. Kindergarten, here they come!
