Excellence in Education Awards 2022

Last month, the Stamford Public Education Foundation brought together over 250 guests at its 15th annual Excellence in Education Awards on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 600 Washington Boulevard. The event's theme was "Up on the Roof," inspired by the Drifters' 1962 hit, and offered guests breathtaking views of the City of Stamford from the rooftop terrace above the offices of NatWest, the presenting sponsor of the evening.

A glass of champagne welcomed community leaders and educators before strolling down the blue carpet, where smooth and rhythmic melodies by Project Music accompanied conversations of those who had not seen each other in person since before the beginning of COVID-19. A vibrant networking reception with a silent auction offering items donated by Hat Attack, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Nordstrom, Rockrimmon Country Club, Closets by Design, the New York Yankees, Salvi Earth, and more kept the crowd busy between grazings at gourmet culinary stations with donations of wine from Domaine Bousquet and beer from Two Roads Brewing.

At this year’s Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony, SPEF honored leaders in education, volunteerism, and community giving:

SPEF Leadership Award, Senator Patricia Billie Miller SPEF Community Giving Award, Deloitte SPEF Educator Award, Jennifer Argenio, Rogers International School

Stamford Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year Committee was also on hand to present their award to Jonathan Ringel of Stamford High School, as well as to their finalists and semi-finalists.

Thank you to everyone who made the event a huge success! Couldn't attend? Consider making a donation!

New and Noteworthy at SPEF

Summer Start

Last week, SPEF's Summer Start welcomed about 100 rising Kindergarteners and 30 four-year-old students to Hart Magnet School.  They had an amazing turn out for the parent orientation and "Meet and Greet" events, which helped the first week run smoothly.  Children have been smiling ear to ear throughout each day, all while learning in hands-on-lessons. Students have begun to pick up on classroom routines, walking in hallways, raising their hands, following rules, and playing nicely with their peers.  We are excited to see what the next few weeks will bring in the nine classrooms of engaged and motivated students!

Thank you to our partners Verizon, United Way of Western CT, and The Community Fund of Darien for recognizing the importance of early childhood education and supporting this year’s Summer Start program with a grant.
