Celebrating 15 Years of the Stamford Mentoring Program

This year marks the 15th anniversary of our mentoring program, and we’re excited to share that SPEF has secured 50 mentors from the Stamford community for our Traditional Mentoring Program. However, we still have 50 middle school students eagerly seeking a mentor!

Our program focuses on providing academic and social/emotional support, along with college and career readiness initiatives, to students identified by school staff as needing additional assistance. As a mentor, you’ll encourage, support, and serve as a role model for your assigned student.

Each mentor receives a grade-specific workbook that reinforces our four main objectives: goal setting, academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and college and career readiness.

Our senior leadership—including our CEO, Chair of the Board of Directors, Director of Development & External Relations, Director of Programming, and Director of Education & Engagement —are all committed to mentoring this year.

Join us in making a difference in the lives of these students!

New and Noteworthy at SPEF

SPEF Awarded Grant from PwC Charitable Foundation!

The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) has received a $25,000 Reimagine Grant from long-standing supporter PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc. This generous grant will help expand the Career Connected Mentoring Program, allowing SPEF to enhance its current mentoring curriculum by providing high school mentees with access to valuable career exploration services and opportunities. The PwC Foundation has been an active supporter of SPEF since 2013, and we are grateful for their ongoing commitment to our mission.

Thank you, PwC Charitable Foundation for your generous support!

SPEF Awarded Grant from Connecticut Partnership Governor’s Prevention!

SPEF is the recipient of a $12,000 grant from The Governor's Prevention Partnership. This funding is enabling us to enhance and strengthen our Mentoring Program for students in middle school, as well as revamp our recruitment and engagement efforts for volunteers by hiring a dedicated program manager.

Thank you to the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, as they celebrate their 35th Anniversary!

SPEF Awarded Grant from the Connecticut Legislative Black & Puerto Rican Caucus through the support from Senator Pat Billie Miller, Representative Hubert Delany, and Representative Corey Paris

Earlier this year, SPEF was honored to receive funding for the fourth consecutive year from the Connecticut Legislative Black & Puerto Rican Caucus' Youth Violence Prevention initiative to support our Middle School Mentoring Program. The $70,000 grant has already been a game changer as we kick off our 15th year of mentoring Stamford’s future.

Thank you, Senator Pat Billie Miller, Representative Hubert Delany, Representative Corey Paris, and the Black & Puerto Rican Caucus for their dedication to public education and their assistance in securing these vital funds.

Additionally, SPEF would like to say a special thank you to Senator Miller for being instrumental in securing $210,000 in FY24 and $250,000 in FY25 for our pre-K readiness program, Summer Start.
